Made from flour, milk, sugar, and a little lard, it just doesn’t get any easier to make a tasty Mexican desserts to serve your friends and family. Sopapilla Mexican Dessert is great any time of the year when you just want a great tasting snack or appetizer for dinner.   • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2 cups vegetable oil for frying

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Using hands, mix in water to make a smooth dough. Knead lightly on a floured surface.
  3. Cut dough into 12 pieces, and shape into round balls. Cover, and set aside.
  4. Heat oil in deep-fryer to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  5. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough into thin circles.
  6. Cut each circle into triangles.
  7. Fry in hot oil, until golden brown, turning when dough puffs.
  8. Remove, and drain well on paper towels.
