French Toast Breakfast Casserole

Winter time is a great time to eat hot breakfasts that keep you and your kids full. You could even make this for a brunch or late breakfast.

French Toast Breakfast Casserole

Your kids will love helping with recipe. Not only will they get to taste everything but they will learn a recipe that’s easy to make. As they become older days like these will be wonderful memories they can share with their own children.

Ingredients:

  • 1 loaf (1 pound) French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 8 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 3 cups 2% milk
  • 4 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt

TOPPING:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • Maple syrup, optional

Directions

  1. Start by putting the bread cubes in a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking dish.
  2. Whisk the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Pour over the mixture over the bread.
  4. Cover and refrigerate over night for 8 hours.
  5. Remove from refrigerator 30 minutes before baking.
  6. Brush the casserole down with butter.
  7. Make a mixture of sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over the top.
  8. Cover and bake at 350° for 45-50 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.
  9. Let stand for 5 minutes.
  10. Serve with maple syrup if desired.
  11. Yield: 12 servings.
